At The Bronx Urban Community Magnet School, we empower students to drive change in their communities and the world through STEAM: science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.
Our students go beyond textbooks. They create, explore, discover, research, build, and invent as they apply STEAM to innovative projects and real-world problems. We challenge our students to take their learning further, so they are on track for success in high school and beyond.

How We’re Different
We are a New York City DOE Magnet School. That means we have all of the same standards, programs, and resources as any other public school in the NYCDOE—plus a few extras. The Magnet School grant program provides funding and access to community partnerships. This additional funding helps to support innovative programming and special facilities around our magnet theme.
In addition to our STEAM focus, here’s what you’ll find:
- Opportunities to build, create, invent, and explore in our state-of-the-art STEAM Lab.
- A hands-on, student-driven approach called Project-Based Learning (PBL).
- A curriculum that builds critical thinking and problem-solving skills through active, real-world projects.

Our school invites students to apply STEAM thinking to real-world problems. Students look at global issues to make connections to their local communities. Each project is aligned to academic standards and grade-level curricula.

The STEAM Lab
Our STEAM Lab is a state-of-the-art “maker space” where students can build, invent, and create. It is fully stocked with all of the materials and technologies budding artists and inventors need to turn their visions into realities, no matter what their medium.

Classroom Technologies: We also infuse technology throughout our classrooms, with laptops, iPads, interactive white boards, and a variety of software programs to support active learning.

Getting Here
The Bronx Urban Community Magnet School is located in Soundview near the Bronx River Parkway and I-278. We are easily accessible by several bus and subway lines, including the 6 train and the Bx4/Bx4A and Bx27 bus lines.
